About a year ago, I was looking for a way to showcase my photos in my media kit. I didn’t want to include them in the kit because that would make it too large. I also didn’t want to put them on my site because I was afraid the page would be too slow to open with all those huge pics. I searched for an alternative and found my solution: SmugMug, a photo sharing site that I use as an online portfolio.

Online Portfolio for Bloggers & Photographers
SmugMug was exactly what I was looking for. It allows me to showcase my best photography on a beautiful interface and easily share it with the world. I link to my portfolio in my media kit so prospective clients can check it out before they hire me. It lets me show everything conveniently in one spot so people don’t have to go searching my site.
Take a peek at what mine look like. I have them organized into the different types of photos.
- Main Portfolio
- Food Photography
- DIY Beauty Photography

I love being able to customize my portfolio. I can turn on right click protection so people can’t save my photos. I can also watermark them too.
Another bonus is that my photos are safe in SmugMug. I don’t have to worry about my computer or external hard drive failing (it happens!). It’s a bit of peace of mind. And yes, it’s unlimited storage so add as many pictures as you like!
SmugMug for Blogging
It’s not free, but it’s cheap! I have the Power Plan at $5.99/month. I think it’s worth it for all the perks SmugMug offers. They also have a cheaper Basic Plan at $3.99/month, but you won’t be able to customize your portfolio. I think either one of those plans would suit bloggers’ purposes.
If you are wanting to sell your photos, you can do it via SmugMug, too. I’m not at that point so I don’t need that feature. I keep all my photos for myself. Maybe I’m greedy!
Check out SmugMug and see how it can benefit your blogging business! If you have SmugMug already, leave a link to your portfolio so we can check it out.
